First let me say that we now LOVE Wanda the Wonderwhale - BUT it took some work to figure out how to get her to work with our Intex 22' Ultra Frame above ground pool. So if you have an Intex pool - here are some of the things that we learned the hard way. First of all, we found out that Wanda comes with a set of feet (I think they are vinyl), but if you have a vinyl pool liner then they recommend you purchase the cork feet. So be sure to buy those. Second thing, if you have not upgraded your pool filter and pump and are using the one that comes with the Intex pool then you will need to buy the Hayward leaf catcher. The 22' Ultra Frame pool pump is 2500 gph and is definitely strong enough to move Wanda around - BUT - here is the difficulty. Because it doesn't have a basket and only the filter, the filter will quickly clog if the pool is even remotely dirty. With the Hayward leaf catcher, bigger pieces will not get sucked into your pump - BUT - smaller gunk will still get through and will clog your filter quickly. Once the filter is clogged, Wanda stops moving. So you need to keep checking on Wanda to see if she is moving and keep cleaning that filter. We have actually graduated up the line from a very small Intex easy set pool with the blow-up ring - had 3 different sizes of these - until we finally have this ultra frame. Somewhere in there, one of our ultra frame pools came with a nice skimmer and deluxe vacuum setup. It is not the current deluxe vaccuum that Intex sells - it was much better. It had a canister with a sock-type debris catcher that would fit into the skimmer and allow you to clean the pool pretty well. So, I thought I could just use this setup to plug Wanda into - thereby trying to catch all the small debris before it got into the pump. Well, if you have a similar setup - let me tell you now it likely won't work. The smaller debris canister reduces the suction by just enough that Wanda won't be able to move. I likewise thought to try putting a woman's nylon inside the Hayward leaf catcher would help catch debris. Well, it did help, but my pump hoses were collapsing on themselves because it restricted the flow too much. So now I have resigned myself to just cleaning the filter frequently and maybe one day saving to upgrade to a sand filter with a leaf basket - but for now it is working. Initially Wanda had quite a job to do because our pool did not have a cover on it for about 2 weeks and it is under a ton of trees, and between spring flowering trees and inchworm infestations there was quite a mess in our pool. Wanda slowly but surely got the whole things clean - with me cleaning the filter pretty frequently. Now that Wanda tackled the initial project, we actually just put a solar cover on the pool and leave Wanda running when we are not in it. We found the solar cover doesn't restrict Wanda and she just happily keeps our pool clean without needing a major cleaning of the filter. What a joy to come out, pull the solar cover off, and find a sparkling clean pool. My one complaint might be that we cannot get Wanda's tail to fit. Everyone in my family has tried to snap that thing into place and it doesn't go. I think they didn't manufacture the tabs correctly. But that is only cosmetic. It is a bit weird that the hose comes in so many parts and that they want you to separate them each time. But we just don't. We pull her out while we swim and then put her right back in. Initially while I was trying to figure out all the issues with her not working I would take apart the hose into just 3 separate sections of 3 hose lengths each - that seems more manageable if you are actually going to go the route of storing the hose - because it claims the hoses will get a "memory" if you store them incorrectly. Also - in case anyone else has an Intex pool pump and can't figure out - we were getting tons of air in our pump. We could not figure out why, and of course the airlock would just stop everything from working. At first we suspected the hose for Wanda, because it had so many connections, but logically we couldn't see how the air was getting in. It turned out our new pool's inlet/outlet valves have some weird new air vent or something on them. I don't know what it is meant to be for, but it was not on any of our old Intex pools' valves. Anyway, when I taped those completely with duct tape it solved the problem. I don't know what those are meant to do, but I think they were not manufactured right and had air leaks. When Wanda wasn't attached the problem was not very noticeable, but with Wanda attached the pump was just sucking air in. I would recommend that if you are using Wanda with an Intex pool that you set your expectations that it will take a lot of frustration possibly to get her to work in the right configuration. You may find you need to order some parts. Definitely order the cork feet and leaf basket. But once you get her to work, you will love her ! UPDATE - I just remembered that I forgot one important piece of information for Intex pool owners. The Wanda comes with a cone type adapter to allow you to attach the vacuum hose to your pump inlet inside the pool. If you have an Intex pool you are probably wondering how you are going to do that. If you have a deluxe skimmer then it came with a Small Strainer Hose B adaptor. If you don't have a skimmer then you may need to buy this adaptor. This adaptor goes on the inside of the pool on the pump inlet (you unscrew the strainer cover and screw this adaptor on). You will then be able to push the cone adaptor of the wanda hose into the hose B adaptor. Please please please note that if you have a new deluxe Intex vacuum, it also comes with an adaptor that looks like the hose B adaptor, but it is a smaller diameter. This smaller diameter will likely be too restrictive for your pump when wanda is attached and your pump hoses will just collapse on themselves. I have both of these adaptors and only the one that comes with the skimmer - hose B adaptor - will work. Watch out because often times when I turn the pump on, no matter how hard I have pushed this cone adaptor into the hose B adaptor, it pops out when I turn the pump on. If that happens to you you will either need to get someone to hold onto it momentarily while you turn on the pump - or like I often do - get really get at inserting the cone adaptor while the pump is actually running (without causing the pump to freak out). Once it is in and the pump is on, the suction of the pump will keep it in. The problem is just the initial jolt of turning on the pump. In summary - for an Intex pool with Intex issued pump (make sure it is a strong enough pump) - get the cork feet, get the Hayward leaf basket, get the Hose B adaptor and clean your filter frequently. I should also have mentioned that we do have some wrinkles in our pool. Nothing tragic, but you just can't get these intex pools set up with a perfectly flat bottom. For our wrinkles, we have no problem with Wanda - she just goes right over them without getting stuck. I did find a couple of times when I was doing the initial really bad cleaning - when we had just so much junk - that Wanda's feet seemed to be stuck - gunk was just literally stuck in them, so I had to turn her over and pull the gunk out. If your pool is really bad and you've cleaned the filter and she still isn't moving, try turning her over and pushing on her feet until they seem to move again. Good luck!I have a 16x32 Intex pool, and I bought this knowing it's not recommended for Intex pools or any non-permanent above ground pool (hey, as far as I'm concerned, this is permanent - it's 14,000 gallons of water, not easy to take down and reassemble, so it stays up year round.) Got the pool from Walmart, because you know, cheap. Ha. The pump/filter is way too small for a pool this large - it works ok for one season and if you're going to drain it each year, starting with new water each time, it's probably ok. Not me - that's way too much water to waste (my Grandma would slap me from Beyond if I wasted that much water). So, this season (season 2) starting out with murky green water, I couldn't get it cleared up, trying every chemical known to clear it up and finally decided I just needed to bite the bullet and upgrade the dang filter/pump. Got a new Hayward pump/filter from the local pool dealer (don't ask me the size - it's at least 2x as big as the one that came with the pool).Got it switched out and, being someone who hates a perfectly working item to just go to waste (there's Grandma again...), got to thinking.....hmmmm, what if I get an automatic pool vac and hook it directly to the old one? How convenient would that be??? My husband thought it was a good idea too - which was great because it wouldn't have gotten done if he wasn't on board - it needed a little fancy plumbing and he figured it all out for me. The old pump/filter is now sitting next to the new pump/filter, new lines just draped over the side of the pool for Miss Wanda. I turn her on in the morning and go check on her occasionally, and turn her off in the evening as I'm not a fan of unsupervised work when a simple clog could be an issue.A few things I've learned:1) If you have leaves on the bottom, you need to supervise - she can get clogged up at the bottom, at the pool sidewall outlet grate (maybe just an Intex thing), and/or the leaf basket at the pump may need to be cleaned out. (Note, I don't have a problem with the outlet grate because she's now directly hooked up to the old one, but if you're hooking her up directly to the outlet port on the side wall, that little grate gets clogged quickly - which is really the main reason I wanted to hook her up to the separate one.)2) If she stops, and doesn't appear to be clogged, check to see if her feet are moving, if not, give 'em a little encouragement - push the feet until they start moving again on their own.3) Sometimes if she seems stuck for no reason and I don't feel like checking, I just turn the pump off, backwash, then back on and usually she starts booking across the pool again.4) Be patient - she does seem to spend a lot of time sometimes in one area - you can either be patient and wait to see if she eventually moves somewhere else, or really, you can just move her yourself to get her out of her funk.5) She's perfect for just maintaining the small stuff that gets to the bottom of the pool - saves me from having to do it (or ignore it...),.So why is she tailless you ask? The tail does not snap on like it's supposed to. Even my husband, who can snap pretty much anything together, said nope. We could try really forcing it - but I'm not willing to risk breaking the rest of her just to stick on a tail. If anyone has suggestions, let me know because I think she would be even cuter than she is already. (Yes, I even tried pushing the snaps in with a screw driver, no go.)All in all, when you consider the fact that some robotic pool vacs are $700 (that's just insane), so far, I think this one is well worth the money. I do have some minor bumps and small wrinkles in the bottom of the pool - she doesn't seem to mind at all - afterall, if she doesn't judge our imperfections, we won't judge her for being tailless...Worked once and hasn’t worked again since! Defective item. Seller uninterested. Not happy. We love our Wanda, she works great in our big above ground pool. However, I would strongly recommend that anyone purchasing this also get the Hayward leaf filter that fits right on the hoses. The first time we used Wanda we had cleared the pool floor as much as possible, but a half hour into the cleaning program our pool pump was blocked; if we had not been watching this could have been damaging. I don't know why the leaf filter is not sold along with the cleaner. Another owner recommended it and now we have no problems. We got the large size leaf filter. This vacuum is amazing! It literally does exactly what it claims - allows me to spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying my pool! It is so easy to use, comes with a pressure gauge to ensure you have the correct pressure to make it operate, and does a heck of a job. You only have to connect the hoses, submerge Wanda in the pool, and watch her scoot around picking up everything in sight. (note: I have a 1.5HP Hayward pool pump)My only problem with this amazon purchase was the length of time it took to arrive, especially when we are amazon Prime members and should have had the free 2-day shipping. Amazon changed the "eligible for prime" status AFTER I purchased the product, then changed the delivery date TWICE after purchase. What was supposed to be 2-day shipping turned into almost 2 weeks to receive. Amazon's only "customer service" was to tell me that in "rare circumstances" they cannot meet the expectations of Prime... unfortunately, my last 3 amazon orders have been delayed, so it is not as rare of an occurrence as amazon would like to admit. they only other advice they could give was to "keep them posted" on when it arrives...All in all, a FANTASTIC purchase. The price was better than you can find elsewhere and the vacuum works like a charm. Expect a great product with less than stellar amazon customer service.we have a 27-foot pool it's far too big to clean going out around the outside so now Wanda the whale does it for us now. Should have bought this years ago
